Lake Conservation

Funding: Almaty City Administration, Soros Foundation Kazakhstan

Implementation period: since 2017 (ongoing)

Results: The conservation of Karasu lake is an ongoing project, requesting funding from international donors or private companies. In January 2023, the City Authorities allocated around KZT 70 mln for a so-called "mechanical cleaning" of the lake. However, the city-approved program does not include essential aspects related to the protection of local biodiversity.
